Minutes of the Meeting of 12th June 2018.

    The President welcomed 16 members to the meeting.

Apologies:
    Apologies were received from Laurent Villoing, Antony Shen, Peter Lehmann and Paul Kay.

Minutes:
    The May 2018 MInutes were accepted without amendment on a motion by Rod Sell, seconded by Gloria Bradley.

Correspondence:
    Winter’s Day with Stamps brochures for the event on Saturday 21 July were received.
Paul Storm told members about the dealers and clubs attending.

Reports:
    The Treasurer reported receipt of $40.00 from the May Northside Stamp Fair.

 The Treasurer had deposited $80.00 during the month.

General Business:
    John Pearson reported that he had visited Jim Aitken at the aged care facility, Mona Vale
House. Jim, aged 93, was frail but completely competent, answering the questions on a television quiz show. He would welcome visitors.
    John also reported that the Newcastle half-national stamp exhibition had been very successful with about 1900 visitors over the three days. The Showgrounds venue near the Broadmeadows Railway Station was excellent.
    Rod Sell asked members of the Northern Suburbs Philatelic Society who were present to remind that club it was scheduled to visit Manly-Warringah on Tuesday 10 July.
    Ed Wolf reported that prominent stamp dealer and Wesley Covers proprietor, Michael Hudson, had passed away on Saturday 9 June. His funeral would be on Friday 15 June.
    Paul Storm reminded members of the PHILAS House Open Day on Saturday 16 June. The wall frames display would be of the PHILAS collection, Women on Stamps compiled by Dr Helen Cockburn. Paul also reminded members that the October Open Day would be an inter-club competition and our Club should enter a team of three members.

Following previous months’ discussion on the Club’s bank accounts it was:
    Moved Rod Sell, seconded Ed Wolf: That the two accounts at the St George Bank be closed
before the roll-over date of the Club’s Term Deposit. Passed unanimously.
    Moved Rod Sell, seconded Ed Wolf: That the funds from the closure of the two St George
bank accounts, plus any necessary top-up from the Commonwealth Bank account, be used to increase the Term Deposit to $20,000.00 at the time of the Deposit’s roll-over on 15 July. Passed unanimously.
 
Items of Interest:
    John Pearson offered two copies of the Americam Philatelist magazine for members to take.
    Gloria Bradley showed the 2018 annual issues of Swiss stamps, released in May each year.
This year included Sport, Pharmacy Association, Lugarno Stamp Exhibition, Traditional Houses, Bridges and Pro Patria.
    Jeff Stone showed free postcards he had collected from distribution points.
    Terry Bluett showed postcards with maps distributed by Austel at the time it was advising rural telephone subscribers of the need to transfer to either Optus or Telstra.
    Garry Enfield showed an old First Day Cover that had recently passed through the post. He also showed some Express Post labels.

Display:
    Ed Wolf showed a ‘smorgasbord’ of Aerophilately – a few pages from each of his aerophilatelic collections. The collections were:
    • Airmail stamps
    • Aerophilatelic terms
    • Australian internal airlines’ routes
    • The Europe - Australia routes
    • The 1934 Uiver flight (Aviation History)
    • Crash Mail (Aviation history)
    • 1953 Coronation Flight (included a book of which Ed was one of the authors) • Aerophilatelic ephemera.
